The Western Corridor of the Serengeti follows the Grumeti River through dense riverine forest and open savannah on the western edge of the park. The western corridor sees the migration pass through on its way north during Mayโ€“July, with spectacular Grumeti River crossings where huge Nile crocodiles โ€” some of the largest in Africa โ€” ambush wildebeest at the crossing points.

Away from the migration season, the Western Corridor offers an outstanding resident wildlife experience: hippo pools along the Grumeti River are home to some of the largest hippo pods in Tanzania, elephant herds move through the woodland, and lion prides are common.

The area is significantly less visited than central Serengeti, giving a sense of wilderness and exclusivity that is hard to find during peak Seronera season.
